Evangelical Lutheran Church Social Service – Hong Kong was founded in 1976. Our target group is the grassroots of the society, especially the disadvantaged and the vulnerable. For many years, our staffs of nearly 1000 people have been contributing to the needs of the elderly, adolescents, children and vulnerable groups, by providing people-oriented services with creative approaches. We are continually evolving and improving our services. Our service area covers Tseung Kwan O, ShaTin, Tai Po, North District, Tin Shui Wai, Tuen Mun, Yuen Long, Tsuen Wan and Kwai Chung.
Providing services to the disadvantaged and the vulnerable with an innovative approach has been our mission for many years. Some examples of our innovative services include:
"When Teens Meet Angels" Project: Provide ser vices and psychological support to pregnant girls under 18.
"Life Garden": Help depressed elderly through different therapies prepared by multidisciplinary teams.
Continuing education for Elderly People: Cooperate with CUHK SCS, we provide courses of continuing studies to people aged 50 or above.
"Society for male elderly": Encourage male elderly to participate in community activities, so as to broaden their interpersonal network.
"Uncle Long Legs' Letter Box" letter counseling service: Respect, listen, and respond to children’s letters with love.
Anti-drug service: Educate teenagers about the harmfulness of taking drugs.
Talent Showcase for promoting social inclusion: Promote social inclusion by providing opportunities for mentally retarded people to show their talent to the public.
"A-space" & "STEP": Build teenagers self confidence and motivation by coordinating dance teams and bands.
Reconciliation service: Promote the practice of solving conflicts in a positive way and help teenagers under Police Superintendent's Discretion Scheme
Our innovative and proactive services have obtained subventions from different parties, including The Community Chest, Beat Drugs Fund, Hong Kong Jockey Club, Community Investment and Inclusion Fund, Enhancing Self-Reliance Through District Partnership Programme, Partnership Fund For the Disadvantaged, Digital Solidarity Fund, commercial organizations, etc. Our units and workers have received various professional awards and attracted a lot of mass media coverage.
We are determined to continuously extend our service range and show our support to the public at large via our services.
